Emergency Visit!

Well last night was an expensive lesson learned. Anthony and I had to run out and pick up his suit for the party tonight so we left Maddie Grace, Kirby and Hope out to guard the house. We were gone about an hour and half. When we returned I discovered that the 3 of them had gotten into Kirby's Heart Meds and eaten all of them! Of course, the dogs seemed completely normal. I immediately called my mother to tell her what had happened, since I was unsure what to do and not quite sure when they had actually eaten all the pills.

I called the emergency clinic and they advised me to bring them in and they would induce vomiting and then give them activated charcoal to bind anything else that might be in there system. So Anthony and I loaded them up and headed to the clinic. They put us in a room and the doctor came in, of course the dogs were thrilled to see someone new and acted as if nothing had happened. He advised that we should make them throw up. I told him that was fine and then proceeded to tell him what he would find when they threw up. The tech came in a got them one at a time and each was so happy to go with her, not having a clue what was going to happen. About 20 minutes later the doctor returned, he told us that both Maddie and Hope had vomited and that I was correct in what they had found. Unfortunately, Kirby was holding on and had not vomited yet. I told him that, that didn't surprise me and he would probably hold on to it as long as he could. He then advised me that he would like to keep them for a little while to monitor them and give them the activated charcoal. I was very reluctant as I have never left them before, especially Kirby! We headed home without them. I went from being starving before this all started to no longer hungry at all! We returned an hour later, the doctor came out and said that they had been fabulous patients and that they all had kept the charcoal down for a while and that if I wanted to take them home I could. He did advise to leave them overnight, but I just couldn't do it. I promised him that I would wake up every hour and get them up to make sure their blood pressure had not dropped and that they were still wanting to eat. So I paid the huge bill and the techs brought them up to us. The dogs were thrilled to see us and continued to act like nothing had ever happened. We brought them home and they ran in the house to tell Emma all that they had been through.

It was time to go to bed, I set my alarm for an hour later and laid down with the dogs. An hour later I woke up, got the dogs up, we went outside and of course it was raining I spent 5-10 minutes with them outside and then we came back in and went back to sleep, only to wake up again an hour later. This continued all night. To say the least I am exhausted and so are they! They seemed annoyed with me, but I didn't care, they deserved this. At 3:30 I got up, Anthony was awake and getting ready for work so I moved from the spare room to my actual bed, with the dogs of course. I woke up again at 4:30 and then was awoken at 5:30 to Hope throwing up charcoal ALL OVER MY BED!!! So I got up woke Maddie and Kirby up and took the 3 of them to the spare room and in their crates they went. I then proceeded to strip my bed and hand wash my sheets only to then put them in the washer. UGH! I then called the clinic to ask about Hope, they said it was not uncommon for this to happen. I then took them out and they ran around seemed happy. I could to tell Hope still had a tummy ache but seemed to be fine otherwise. Kirby and I returned to my stripped down bed and slept until 7am, I got up and checked on the girls and Hope had vomited more charcoal. I cleaned that up and then returned to bed.

So far everyone is doing fine. Hope's tummy still hurts but she ate this morning is taking cookies!

Lesson learned, all medicines going in the cabinets now!!!!
